My friend recently got a bold new haircut and was really excited about it. He asked me what I thought, and I wanted to be honest with him. I told him that, personally, I didn’t like it and that it wasn’t really my style. I thought honesty was the best approach since they specifically asked for my opinion. However, my friend got extremely upset after I said it, and got annoyed, He said I had no right to judge his appearance. It created a really awkward situation whenever we’re around each other. My other friends told me that I should have just lied to spare his feelings, said it’s better to support a friend’s choices, even if you don’t personally like them, especially when it comes to something like a haircut, which is such a personal decision. I see their point, but I also feel like honesty is important in friendships. Have i handled this the wrong way? Was I being too blunt? I want to maintain our friendship, but I also don’t want to feel like I can’t be honest with them. So, AITA for telling my friend the truth about their haircut?
