Me and my friends are thinking of entering our school’s music competition this year. We can participate and win money or we can also just do the show without competing. This competition is required to have french music in it to participate in the competition to win the money. the problem is, we can’t seem to agree on it and they’re really pissing me off. i’m the one who sings the actual songs and they’re the musicians. the problem is they keep picking songs that are obviously bad for singing. and i don’t want to keep shutting down their ideas but if i can’t sing it, we can’t do it. just like i wouldn’t force the guitarist to learn master of puppets or something. in my mind, it has to be equal. i’m seriously thinking of dropping them and doing it on my own. you might be thinking : why can’t YOU find any songs that you’d like to perform in french? because i can’t find any! a lot of songs are either little songs that don’t value our talents at all and will not make us win at all, or they’re big songs that would make this a one woman show, which is not fair at all to the musicians. so here’s what i did, i asked if we could possibly do it, without competing, using an english song that we all would have way more fun on and that would value our talents more. i don’t care about MAYBE winning and MAYBE getting some money, it might not even be us! i just want to have fun with my friends but they don’t seem to care at all about what i’m saying or the ideas im proposing. one of my friends keeps thinking she’s got control of everything and it makes me really mad. i picked some english songs that would value us all, and that wouldn’t be too hard to play, yet she keeps picking songs that wouldn’t work at all! and she’s ignoring all my points. but i feel bad because i feel kind of selfish for some reason of asking to not compete and just do it for fun. i also know that i’m not crazy about this, right? i’m asking here because i need an outside opinion. so if anyone could tell me if i’m the asshole or not, i’d really appreciate it. thank you. edit: please consider that my intentions in this are NOT to be main stage, but to make sure everyone shines in this especially my friends. i’m just picky about the songs because obviously, it needs to sound good. also i am french canadian and i understand that most do not know a lot of the song genre from here. that’s okay, just please remember that if im saying a song is not good to sing or play, i know what i’m talking about.
