Throwaway because he uses Reddit. I, 23F, have a boyfriend, 24M. He’s a musician and I’ve always been supportive of him, picking up food or paying part of his rent when his financial status seems uncertain, always going to his shows or recommending him to friends. We’ve been dating for eight months, and he wants me to move in with him soon. There’s only one problem. He’s currently working on his new album, which features multiple songs about his ex boyfriend. I’m fine with that, but I think it’s weird that he can’t let go of him. He hasn’t written a song about me (which I’m perfectly okay with), but he wrote songs for his ex just one month into dating. A week ago, I told him about it, and he said he had some songs in the works about me, but none put to paper yet. He told me not to get jealous, because he loved me just the same, but it felt bad to know that he was thinking about someone else and producing art about them. He has a guitar in his room, given to him by his ex. He has it hung and barely uses it, so when I was going home, I took it. I knew it wouldn’t be a big deal because he doesn’t actually use it, and it would show him how bad I feel, since he was basically ignoring my feelings. When I got home, I set against the wall, and while I was sleeping, it fell over. When I woke up, the handle (where you press down on) was cracked. He called me as soon as he woke up (10:00) and told me to return it immediately. I told him what happened, and he demanded I pay for it. I told him the price was ridiculous, and that I pay for enough of his things, and that he doesn’t use the guitar anyway. He told me he played his first show on that guitar, and he had memories attached to it. I told him I wasn’t paying for it, and he hung up. Now, my entire friend group is against me, but my parents agree with me. It wasn’t a big deal, I can tape up the neck and give it to him. It’s been a few days since me and him spoke over the phone, and he refuses to talk to me until I pay for the guitar. I think it’s a stupid hill to die on, and some of his friends even think he’s being overdramatic. So, Reddit, AITA?
