Hi everyone, I’ve only been driving trucks for about 2 years, so I’m still figuring things out and I had a situation recently that made me wonder if I overstepped. Between 4 AM and 5:30 AM, I was behind a truck that I was eventually going to pass (I was going maybe half a mile faster than him). But then I noticed he started swerving into two lanes. At first I wasn’t sure if he was just distracted, but it kept happening and seemed to be getting worse. Instead of passing, I stayed behind him because I honestly thought he might be falling asleep. I even tried calling on the CB, but he didn’t respond. I don’t know if he didn’t have it on, ignored me, or just didn’t have one at all. At one point, he almost went into the ditch between the off-ramp and the main highway, and it really scared me. Right after that, he pulled over. I pulled over behind him, thinking maybe I could check on him or even offer my number just so we could chat a bit to help him stay awake. But before I even got out, he took off again. So… I took off too and ended up following him for about an hour, until I had to stop for fuel. Now, I keep wondering: was that creepy of me? Is it normal in trucking to look out for each other like that, or should I have just minded my own business? My intention wasn’t to be weird, just to make sure he didn’t crash and maybe keep him company on the road. So, truckers of Reddit: AITA for following him like that, or was I just being caring?
