I (23M) just finished college and I’m back to my home town and am staying with my mom while I get a job and a better place. However I have really bad allergies (specially towards polen, dust and animal hair) and it comes with sneezing, mucus and asthma.Every time that I get back home I start having really bad allergies, but my family insist that is bc of the cats hair or for a tree outside, they are certain that the box of cigarrera they smoke daily has nothing to do with it. Last winter, after I begged them to stop several times and they just went to the kitchen to smoke I had a really bad case of asthma and the emergency meds didn’t worked so I ended up in the hospital. After that they got a little bit scared and stoped smoking inside the apartment while I was in town and, surprise, my allergies went away. However, apparently they forgot about this. Now I’m sitting at a family gathering with really bad allergies and I beg them to stop but, as it’s a social gartering, they forget and keep smoking. If they remember the go to the kitchen (again, it’s an apartment so it’s like 4 m away). I don’t know how to asked them now bc I’m starting to feel like a killjoy, everyone is having a great time and look at me like omg just shut up every time I asked them to, but I can’t stop sneezing and feeling awful. Should I make a scene? Or maybe just go somewhere else if they don’t listen to me? People who smoke, is the addiction so bad that you can’t make an exception for your family sake?
