My girlfriend (27F) and I (27M) just got back from a trip to Barcelona and had a really good time. I have a work training coming up in Austria, and since I’ll already be over there, I thought it’d make sense to use a week of PTO and turn it into a little vacation. She’s in residency, but for that week she wouldn’t have an assignment, so in my head it seemed doable for her to come with me. Because of my work travel points, I could cover all the hotels, and they’d be really nice places too. The only real cost for her would be the flight, which is around $800 round-trip. Not cheap, but I thought it was worth it for the chance to have another cool trip together. When I brought it up, she got upset. She said I was being pushy, that the ticket was too expensive, and that she didn’t want to fly alone (even though I said I’d meet her at the airport). I felt kind of bummed because instead of being even a little excited or willing to talk it through, she immediately went straight to all the reasons it wouldn’t work. To me it felt like she was only looking at the negatives instead of seeing it as a fun opportunity. So AITA for pushing the idea and being disappointed she wasn’t more excited about it?
