Yesterday, my 7-year-old son came home and told me that one of his classmates tried to choke him from behind in the school washroom. Another child had to intervene to get the attacker to stop. This alone is terrifying enough, but when I brought it up in the parents’ group, I learned that almost every kid in the class has been facing issues with the same child. Apparently, this boy has been: • Abusing classmates verbally • Throwing water on their uniforms • Kicking their water bottles • Hitting other kids in their private parts The child is said to be a “special needs” student (possibly ADHD or another condition – I’m not sure). I absolutely understand that children with special needs deserve care and inclusion, but at the same time, I can’t accept my son or other kids being physically endangered.
