So this happened tonight. My girlfriend (we’ve been dating about 2 years) had decided to cook dinner for me. she never once made anything before other than instant noodles, she was acting kind of nervous about it, but she kept saying she wanted to “treat me” and show she could make a nice homemade meal. I texted her back telling her that I was down for it and had no problems with the idea. When I got to her place, she had this whole setup candles, plates already out, the works. She made pasta with some kind of creamy sauce and chicken. Honestly, it looked really good, like presentation wise she nailed it. The problem was the taste, when I tried to eat it, I don't know how to describe it in a better way but it tasted like frozen microwaved food you'd get from the supermarket, the chicken tasted like rubber, the sauce bland but salty at the same time and the pasta was overcooked. I tried to smile as an attempt to hide my disgust but then she asked me directly "How is it? Do you like it?". And without thinking, I said: *“it kinda tastes like microwave food.”* She went really quiet and just nodded, but I could tell she was upset Later she told me she felt embarrassed and that she’d gone out of her way to make something special, and I basically ruined the night. Now she’s not really talking to me and I feel like crap. My logic is that she did ask for honesty, and I think she overreacted because I didn't mean to be mean in any way. AITA for comparing her cooking to microwave food when she asked me to be honest?
