Throw away. My wife(27) is not happy with me(26) for wanting the full property tax refund. I’ll try to shorten this as much as possible. We both have separate banking accounts and also have a joint checking and saving account. We own our home and all of our house bills come out of our joint checking. Both of our names are on the home loan. I pay the escrow monthly and she covers the utilities. We put however much from our separates into our joint checkings to cover our portion of the house bills and usually a little extra to fluff the account. Now the yearly property taxes are included within the monthly escrow bill that I cover. I am a veteran and with my VA disability rating my state reimburses me what I paid in property taxes back with the state refund. For example if my property taxes are $2,000 a year, I still pay the $2,000 broken up in 12 monthly payments, then receive the $2,000 from a tax credit the following year. My wife is upset that I think that I am entitled to 100% of the property tax refund. She believes that because we are both the homeowners and that the escrow payment comes out of our joint account that I should not receive all of said refund. AITA for believing that I should receive the full amount? Edit: I did not add and it seems clear I should now. The escrow also includes the mortgage and home owners insurance which together are about 2k more than the utilities a month.
